The story behind the weave

Kalamkari – from 'kalam' (pen) and 'kari' (craftsmanship) – is an ancient art of Andhra Pradesh, centred in Srikalahasti and Machilipatnam. Artisans traditionally drew scenes from the epics and nature by hand, using natural dyes, turning cloth into a storybook.
