The story behind the weave

Woven in Varanasi on the banks of the Ganga, Banarasi sarees flourished under Mughal patronage, when Persian floral and jaal designs met the skill of Indian weavers. Their gold and silver zari brocade made the Banarasi an essential part of every North Indian bride's trousseau – a tradition that continues today.

Styling tip: Pair with polki or kundan jewellery and a contrast blouse; a potli bag and juttis complete the festive look.

Care: Dry clean only. Store folded in a soft muslin or cotton cloth, away from direct sunlight and damp; refold every few months so the zari does not crease. Avoid spraying perfume or deodorant directly on the fabric.
